Republic Day : More than a holiday

Every year 26th January is celebrated as Republic day of India. It is one of the very important of the country after Independence Day(15th August). On this day the constitution of India was written and thus came into force. Though the main event/celebration takes place at Rajpath in New Delhi where the current prime minister of India delivers speech to the public. Along with this artists from various states of the country represent their culture through ‘Jhaakiyaan’. Also the defense forces like navy, police, army, air force and other troops show the bravery acts. This day is also important because bravery awards are distributed among the children who have saved the life of the others on keeping their life on stake. They come, riding on a beautifully decorated elephants and wave their hands towards the audience and the Prime Minister. Bravery is an instinct to act spontaneously at a moment. Flag hosting is again one of the important and patriotic moment during the course of an event. Children make their own flags to show their love towards the nation.

Many television channels gives live telecast from Rajpath, New Delhi. It is good to see children dancing and singing in a very synchronized and aligned manner. 26th January is a National holiday. This time it is on Saturday followed by Sunday. So, It’s double fun. Enjoy this Republic Day by making your own National flag and host it proudly to show your creativity and love for your country.

All-time favorite Romantic reads

Weekend might still be away but you can enjoy that mushy, laid back feeling. Sit back and enjoy these all-time favorite romantic reads:

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte: Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine’s father.

The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.

Love Story by Eric Segal: Opposites in nearly every way, Oliver and Jenny are kindred spirits from vastly different worlds. Falling deeply and powerfully, their attraction to one another defies everything they have ever believed–as they share a passion far greater than anything they dreamed possible . . . and explore the wonder of a love that must end too soon.

One of the most adored novels of our time, this is the book that defined a generation–a story of uncompromising devotion, of life as it really is . . . and love that changes everything.

P. S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern: Holly couldn’t live without her husband Gerry, until the day she had to. They were the kind of young couple who could finish each other’s sentences. When Gerry succumbs to a terminal illness and dies, 30-year-old Holly is set adrift, unable to pick up the pieces. But with the help of a series of letters her husband left her before he died and a little nudging from an eccentric assortment of family and friends, she learns to laugh, overcome her fears, and discover a world she never knew existed.

The kind of enchanting novel with cross-generational appeal that comes along once in a great while, PS, I Love You is a captivating love letter to the world!

Dog flowers from paper craft

The art of Paper folding and cutting is certainly not new. But the creativity it offers is limitless for sure. Books, Activities and Games Library and Store (BAGS) show you how easy it is to create beautiful dogwood blossoms out of something so simple: paper.

Supplies:

  • White card stock
  • Paper cutter
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch (standard)
  • Distress Inks (Ivy and Sepia tones)
  • Rubber stamp

Instructions:

Fold your squares into quarters to get nice and crisp folds.

Open the square back up, and fold corner to corner, just using your hand to crease, this gives a softer look to the petals.

Fold the paper back into a square. Hold the square on the diagonal and cut the “corners” off, creating a teardrop shape.

Open your paper to reveal your almost dogwood!

When you’ve finally cut out as many as you want, it’s time to make it look real! Using a rubber stamp with distress ink (Ivy), stamp on the center of your dog flower cut-outs.

Then using a standard office hole punch, clip all four petals and then ink it using sepia ink. And your dog flowers are ready!

Books by Rhonda Byrne

Rhonda Byrne (born 12 March 1951) is an Australian television writer and producer, best known for her book series “The Secret”. She was listed in Time Magazine’s list of 100 people who shaped the world. The trilogy of her books is a must-read for a better, happier future.

THE SECRET: Fragments of a Great Secret have been found in the oral traditions, in literature, in religions and philosophies throughout the centuries. For the first time, all the pieces of “The Secret” come together in an incredible revelation that will be life-transforming for all who experience it.  “The Secret “contains wisdom from modern-day teachers — men and women who have used it to achieve health, wealth, and happiness. By applying the knowledge of “The Secret”, they bring to light compelling stories of eradicating disease, acquiring massive wealth, overcoming obstacles, and achieving what many would regard as impossible.

The Secret

THE POWER: In this book you will come to understand that all it takes is just one thing to change your relationships, money, health, happiness, career, and your entire life. Every discovery, invention, and human creation comes from The Power. Perfect health, incredible relationships, a career you love, a life filled with happiness, and the money you need to be, do, and have everything you want, all come from The Power. The life of your dreams has always been closer to you than you realized, because The Power – to have everything good in your life – is inside you. To create anything, to change anything, all it takes is just one thing… THE POWER!

The Power

THE MAGIC: For more than twenty centuries, words within a sacred text have mystified, confused, and been misunderstood by almost all who read them. Only a very few people through history have realized that the words are a riddle, and that once you solve the riddle—once you uncover the mystery—a new world will appear before your eyes.
